From 2017 IBM BPM edition in version 8.6

IBM BPM Express
IBM BPM server (Standard and Advance are combined)

From 2018 the direction of IBM is to use IBM BAW (Business Automation workflow) which will have IBM BPM and IBM Case Management which means IBM might end the support to IBM BPM down the line.

IBM BAW edition click here

IBM Business Automation Workflow Express  (It combines IBM Process and Case Management capabilities)
IBM Business Automation Workflow Enterprise (It combines IBM Process Management and IBM Case management)

After 2018 the plan of IBM is to merge IBM BAW  and IBM ODW and name the product as IBM DBA ( Digital Business Automation)  click here

The below explains the direction of IBM BPM to IBM BAW

Database which creates along with IBM BPM and Integration designer

BPMDB
PDWDB
CMNDB
CPEDB

Explanation for each DB was pulled from the url

Server component Database (default name) Notes
Process Server
BPMDB
The Process Server tables are used to hold, store, and track the data for the process application repository.
Performance Data Warehouse
PDWDB
Application scheduler
CMNDB (the common database)
You must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. You must configure the CMNDB tables either during the startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server or before you start the deployment manager or stand-alone server.
Business Process Choreographer
BPEDB
You must create the BPEDB before you start a server or cluster with Business Process Choreographer configured.
Business Process Choreographer Explorer reporting function
OBSRVDB
The Business Process Choreographer Explorer reporting functionality is deprecated. To monitor and report on BPEL processes, use IBM Business Monitor
.
Business Space
CMNDB (the common database)
For stand-alone profiles, you must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. For other profiles, you must use the administrative console to configure Business Space. Configuring a Business Space database is mandatory for using Business Space powered by WebSphere® and Process Portal.Business Space powered by WebSphere provides a common interface for application users to create, manage, and integrate web interfaces across a range of IBM products.
Common Event Infrastructure (CEI)
EVENT (stores events)
CEI database configuration is not supported by the Profile Management Tool or the manageprofile command-line utility.
Do not create this database for production environments because the performance of persisting events may be impacted.
The Common Base Event browser relies on the CEI database. If you want to use the Common Base Event browser to retrieve and view logging, tracing, management, and business events in your business enterprise applications, you must create the CEI database manually.
Enterprise service bus
CMNDB (the common database)ESBDB
You must configure these tables either during startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server or before you start the deployment manager or stand-alone server
Mediation
CMNDB (the common database)
You must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. You must configure the CMNDB tables either during the startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server or before you start the deployment manager or stand-alone server.
Recovery
CMNDB (the common database)
You must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. You must configure the CMNDB tables either during the startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server or before you start the deployment manager or stand-alone server.
Relationships
CMNDB (the common database)
You must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. You must configure the CMNDB tables before or during the startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server.
Selectors and business rules
CMNDB (the common database)/Repository DB
You must create the common database before you start IBM Business Process Manager. You must configure the CMNDB tables before or during the startup of the deployment manager or stand-alone server.
SIBus
User created
You must configure these tables during the startup of the messaging engine or before you start the messaging engine. You can use a file store with SIBus in a stand-alone environment during profile creation. However, you cannot use a file store with SIBus in a network deployment environment.

Components for IBM BPM
Process Center: It is the heart of IBM BPM
a.       Process Center Server
·         When a developer clicks on Run button in Web/Eclipse PD/Portal code will be executed in Process Center Server.
·         Process Center Server is associated with database called BPMDB. This BPMDB will be called as Process DB / Product DB / Metadata DB / Operational data of BPM.
b.       Repository
·          library where all the artifacts being stored. From Web PD or eclipse PD.
c.       Performance Data Warehouse Server (PDW Server)
·         When Process Center server is running some code, PDW Server will track the data. This data is used for generating reports from PDWDB.

Process Designer:
·         This Eclipse PD, where you develop BPD’s/ Services etc.
Process Center Console
·         This the Web version of Process Designer
·         You can login into Process Center console to connect to Web PD.
·         It manages/controls Process Center Repository.
Process Admin Console
·         Which manages/controls your process center server.
Process Portal
·         End user interface
Performance Admin console
·         Which manages/controls your performance admin console

Components required in Development
·         Process Center (Process Center Server, Repository, PDW Server)
·         Process Designer
·         Process Center Console
·         Process Admin Console
·         Performance Admin Console
·         Process Portal

Components required above Development

·         Process Server
·         PDW Server
·         Performance Admin Console
·         Process Admin Console
·         Process Portal

Online Server:
If Process Center is directly connected to Process Server. We call this as an online server.
Offline Server:

If Process Center is not directly connected to Process Server. We call this asan offline server.
